Canary All-In-One Security Camera Review | SafeWise

Hi, I’m Rebecca Edwards, the Senior Writer and Safety Expert for SafeWise. Today, we’re gonna talk about the Canary All-In-One, which is our smart home pick as one of the best wireless cameras. (lighthearted music) The Canary All-In-One has everything they’ve come to expect in a security camera, including two-way talk, night vision, and motion detection.

It also uses Wi-fi and Bluetooth to connect and do what it does. But this camera’s not 100% wire free, you have to plug it into a cord, which is not our favorite, because it limits where you can place it, and this camera will only work inside.

There’s no way to cheat and try it outside. But the best thing is it has a built-in security system. That includes an emergency contact list that you can enter in, you can list friends, family, a neighbor, and there is a panic button at the top, and a panic button in the Canary app.

And if you see a person entering the space and you’re at work, you can hit that button and it’s going to instantly contact your neighbor. Or it could even give a direct call to the police or to the fire department, so that you have the opportunity to stop a break in and not just know that it happened.

This camera is also ideal for small spaces. If you live in an apartment, or a dorm, or you share a space with roommates and you wanna keep an eye on your closet, this camera is the perfect choice. Another cool feature is climate sensors.

What the climate sensors do is they look for changes in humidity in the air and changes in temperature. So a spike in humidity could mean that there’s a water leak somewhere. You might have a broken pipe.

If you see changes in temperature, increased temperatures could mean candles were left unattended or maybe the fire wasn’t completely extinguished in the fireplace. A reduction in temperature could mean that you might need to leave the tap on tonight so that pipes are not going to freeze.

And this is the kind of alerts and care that lets you avoid a problem before it goes too far. So there’s a lot of preventative tools in this camera, as well as just recording what’s happening. The Canary All-In-One also includes facial recognition.

And what that means is you’ll be able to tell if there’s a person walking around in your living room or if it’s just the family pet out for a midnight stroll. The first person alert that I received on the app was actually to let me know that the person in my house was a kitty.

And I thought that was pretty funny. But what we did learn is that the camera always picks up motion, it caught motion every single time there was movement in the room. It just didn’t always know if it was a human or a cat.

But it didn’t ever think I was a cat, so I thought that that was a very good sign. (laughs) Overall, the Canary is the best choice if you live in a small space, like an apartment or a dorm, and you want the extra comfort of security system features.

Like the emergency contact list and button, the climate sensors that can let you know if some disaster might be underway, the facial recognition that should tell you if you should respond to a person entering your room or just ignore the cat.

The downsides include that it’s not 100% wire free, you’re gonna have to use a cord, which limits where you can place it, and it can’t be used outside. So this is an absolutely, 100% inside-only camera.
